Sodom and Gomorrah – God's Judgment and a Message for Today

Sodom and Gomorrah were two ancient cities mentioned in the Bible that became symbols of sin, corruption, and God's judgment. This event is described in Genesis chapters 18 and 19. It is not only a historical record but also a powerful warning for us today.

What was the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?

The people of these cities were deeply corrupt. They indulged in sexual immorality, pride, violence, and ignored the needs of the poor. The Bible says:

Genesis 18:20 – "Then the Lord said, 'The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous...'"

God’s Warning and Abraham’s Intercession

Before judgment, God revealed His plan to Abraham. Abraham pleaded for mercy and asked God to spare the cities if even ten righteous people could be found. But not even ten were found, which shows how far the people had turned from God.

God sent two angels to warn Lot and his family. They were urged to leave quickly because destruction was coming. As they fled, they were told not to look back. Sadly, Lot's wife disobeyed and turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26).

Even Jesus referred to Sodom and Gomorrah as a warning to those who reject God’s message:

Matthew 10:15 – "Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town."

A Call to Repentance
